  The Costa Concordia Image

  

  The Costa Concordia image which I manipulated is a stunning example of the social media viral effect and lucky timing.

  I like sites like “The Big Picture” or “The Atlantic in Focus” a lot because of their excellent Photo-galleries.

  I Stumbled across the Costa image gallery which was all over the news. I was so impressed by this one frightening image I couldn’t move my eyes off of it. Such a tragic and sad beauty.

  Suddently I thought what about rotating the image and moving the ship back to its original angle. It cost me maybe tree minutes to do so in Photoshop. 

  I posted the image in my sea Blog and it was reblogged about 50’000 times in the first 24h.  I guess if the timing wasn’t that good with the news about the accident of the ship it would never have spread this far.

  This was some kind of “Digital Flyer” attempt for the «ensemble proton bern».

  I find it annoying that they used to mail the digital version of the flyer with e-mail. For me that’s somehow an inappropriate use of the flyer because with the low resolution of the emails you usually can’t see a thing nor read anything. PDF is also bad, because that comes within an attachment and you have to open it first.

  So my idea was to create some sort of animated youtube flyer.

  But you can’t embed youtube videos into e-mail. Some mails allow it and some don’t so you newer know what happens.

  Therefor I see digital flyers as a unsolved problem. Coolest thing would be a sequential animated png embedable within the email.

  So it’s somehow a failed attempt. But it was fun to create it :)
